Reading Ken Levine’s “My problem with MAD MEN this season” and can’t but to think of Damages and the non-evolution of Patty Hewes. In regards to Patty, I certainly don’t think it was the writers task to evolve her, ergo they’d stopped loving her. Just that there are some good parallels between Patty Hewes and Don Draper as far as the characters searching for themselves and the audience wanting them to find their peace (as per the latest episode) and that simply not being what their journey is. As sad as it is, it is still ok for characters - and us - to not evolve if we so choose. Well, actually I choose to believe the characters - and us - will actually evolve somewhere, someday but it’s just not the journey we are meant to see.
